Review
This excellent and informative little book introduces children to the
world of publishing in a coherent, step-by-step manner. Kalman begins
with the questions that must be answered before a concept can become a
viable publishing project. The reader then follows the idea through all
the stages of publishing—outlines, drafts, fact checking, graphics,
rewrites, editing, proofreading, design, and printing. The book closes
with a page of pragmatic advice to young authors.
This book is a valuable, accurate guide to the world of publishing, and
is itself an excellent example of a well-written, well-designed book. A
good outline, clear language, abundant information, attractive graphics,
and great pictures give young readers a basis for critical comparison,
and young writers a standard to which they can aspire. Highly
recommended.
