Review
This series of large-format picture books provides an exciting and
visually appealing introduction to a selection of endangered animals
found in a variety of habitats. Using a consistent format that
simplifies the retrieval of information by the young reader, Taylor has
provided a welcome resource that should prove popular with students in
the middle- and upper-elementary grades. Significant information
pertaining to each animal subject is neatly and concisely presented
under bold subheadings. Specific biological information is further
highlighted through the use of sidebars.
The high-quality photographs present the subjects in their natural
settings. Each book includes an introduction that describes both the
specific habitat of the region being considered and the root causes that
are putting the animals in danger. Taylor concludes by describing
conservation success stories, and by suggesting various steps that the
reader can take at home to help preserve endangered species. A glossary
of terms and a comprehensive index complete each book. This series
should be well received by the target audience. Recommended for both
classroom and at-home use.
