Review

The Dream King is not recommended for readers looking for happy endings.
In these 15 short stories, Robinson explores relationships involving
emotionally unstable characters who feel trapped in their daily lives.
His terse and emotionally charged prose underscores the feelings of
helplessness that threaten to engulf his characters. At the end of the
collection, there are three stories that seem to be the beginnings of a
larger work rather than complete stories in themselves. Although well
written, they seem out of place in a collection dealing with everyday
relationships.
