Review

Darren Laur, a sergeant with the Victoria Police Department, specializes
in safety awareness and self-defence strategies. His co-author, Beth
Laur, manages Personal Protection Systems, a company that teaches
self-defence. In this compendium of sound advice, women are shown how to
respond to the many criminal acts to which they are vulnerable. Legal
and psychological realities provide the framework for the information
provided. Topics include streetproofing, responses to physical attack,
appropriate safety measures for your home and car, protecting yourself
in both public and private situations, and sexual assaults and the
recovery process. There should be a copy of Total Awareness in every
public library.
