Review

The Miramichi River is one of the premier salmon rivers of the
world—200 miles of clean gravel without a dam, waterfall, or other
obstacle to impede fish travel. Anglers from all over the world come to
fish the river. With their intimate knowledge of the sport, passed down
from generation to generation, river guides are the cornerstones of the
New Brunswick tourist fishing industry. This book introduces us to more
than 20 of them. In recording their stories, Wayne Curtis, the author of
Fishing the Miramichi (1996) and himself a river guide for 37 years,
provides some interesting anecdotes and lots of celebrity name-dropping
(many of the rich and famous repair to the Miramichi for their fishing
holidays). The river-guide biographies are accompanied by photographs of
the guides, their equipment, and the fishing camps where they work.
