Review

Writing a parody of self-help and motivational manuals is not an easy
job, since many of the originals, themselves, seem to be parodies on the
genre. In this slim book, the author attempts the task of turning out a
reverse self-help book that satirizes, chapter by chapter, the general
thrust of popular motivational texts, and demonstrates how to use the
insights obtained to build a less-successful, less-happy, and
less-spiritual self. The level and type of humor represented is similar
to that of Mad magazine or The National Lampoon, both of which the
author claims to have written for. You’re Not as Good as You Think You
Are offers a quick, light read for rainy days.
