Review

Shawn Blore and the editors of Vancouver magazine have given residents
of Vancouver a new way to appreciate their city. The information
provided in this book ranges from the useful to the utterly trivial. We
are introduced to unsung restaurants, great places to get an espresso, a
club for UFO aficionados, and the best Chinese apothecary in town. Blore
also shares with us the locations of secret tunnels, underground
shortcuts for downtown commuters, and little-known gossip about
celebrities who have visited the city.

Everyone has heard about Stanley Park, Vancouver’s oasis of wild
green, but how many people know that the multitude of grey squirrels
that inhabit the park are descended from a single pair that were
imported from New York? And while even tourists know about the totem
poles in Stanley Park, how common is knowledge of other totem pole
locations?

Vancouver: Secrets of the City is entertaining, irreverent, and full of
options for those idle weekend afternoons.
