Review

The good doctor of OWL magazine, OWL/TV, and several other science
activity books is back, with 21 new activities that readers can do with
“safe and easily obtainable materials.” All have been child-tested,
require little adult supervision, and are suitable for both home and
classroom. Each appears on a double-page spread that provides a list of
requirements, a statement of purpose (“about this experiment”),
clear directions, and zany pictures of Dr. Zed and his companion mice
making jokes and adding information in cartoon-style drawings. The
activities include making a “crazy kazoo,” a “rocket launcher,”
“phewy putty,” “incredible ice cream,” and
“dance-till-you-drop popcorn.” There is also an experiment log and
an index. A must for all libraries that serve children.
