Review
In this follow-up book to their successful Crazy for Horses (1999),
Briggs and Hamilton focus on 16 breeds of ponies. The ponies are
presented in double-page spreads. On the one side is a splendid
full-page, full-color mini-poster of the breed, and on the other side is
the text, which includes a complete description of the breed as well as
many interesting facts. Readers will learn about a day in the life of a
show pony, ponies with jobs, the oldest breed of horse alive, how to
tell a pony from a horse, pony terminology, pony events, and pony
competitions. The last page of this book includes an extensive list of
addresses and Web sites for young readers who want to further explore
the world of ponies.
Shawn Hamilton’s expertise as a professional freelance equestrian
photographer and Karen Briggs’s journalistic style make this book not
only an excellent source of collected facts on ponies but also a delight
to read. Recommended.
