Review
Making Transitions Work draws on a varied base of research in developing
a framework for understanding the transition needs of people aged 15 to
30. For young adults, the book offers assistance in articulating the
challenges and opportunities they face, as well as insights on how to
cope with the multiple transitions they experience. For mature adults,
the authors provide advice on facilitating personal and career
development in a changing world.
As the authors point out, transition is not a simple process: young
people in different contexts will have different needs, and will require
different coping strategies. In addition, transitions occur not only in
career development but also in relationships and in independent living.
Despite the high demand for coping skills, young adults demonstrate
meagre coping skills and receive little guidance in developing them.
This book outlines strategies that will help young adults navigate the
changes (both predictable and unpredictable) they will encounter in
their personal and professional lives.
A tendency to repetition does not diminish the value of this book as a
resource for those in the specified age groups.
