Review

Fred Edge’s chronicle of his wife’s eight-year battle with cancer is
an eloquent testament to a woman of extraordinary courage. Chris Edge
had not one but three different types of cancer (colon, ovarian, and
melanoma)—all diagnosed sequentially. Her personal philosophy was that
each person must take charge of his or her own life and that “living
well is the best revenge.” She applied this philosophy to her
devastating situation and, through “sheer determination and guts,”
managed to live and die with dignity, not as a pawn in a medical chess
game.

Although Borrowed Time is not a medical book, it does contain
references to both conventional and alternative cancer treatments.
Readers are encouraged to “learn personally all they [can] about their
disease” and then “to make their own informed decisions” with
respect to treatment. People dealing with cancer and anyone drawn to
stories of human courage and fortitude will be inspired by this book.
