Review

Tom Hunter is the author of several puzzle books for children, including
the Canadian Wildlife Activity Books and the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police Activity Books. Critters for Kids is another of his fine
softcover large-format activity books aimed at youngsters in Grades 3 to
6. This time Hunter features an interesting range of North American
animals (e.g., pika, armadillo, quail, lizard) in his games and
drawings. The black-and-white drawings accompanying the puzzles are
highly realistic and attractive.

Hunter has created a wide range of activities requiring different
skills. There are word scrambles, discrimination puzzles, word searches,
puzzles containing hidden animals to be found and counted, drawings of
half an animal’s head that require the reader to complete the image,
mazes, making new words, and many more. Teachers, group leaders, and
parents will find this book a fun resource for activities and learning.
Recommended.
