This six-book series combines the award-winning prose of nature writer
Diane Swanson with the work of some of the finest nature photographers
in the world. The books have been designed to create maximum interest.

photograph. Large-point easy-to-read type is used to encourage young
readers to make an effort to read the books for themselves. Although
intended for juvenile readers, Swanson’s text is informative enough to
hold the attention of most older readers.

The animals profiled in the series are eagles, owls, bats, foxes,
racoons, and wild cats. The life cycle of each animal is examined in
detail. Young readers learn how these creatures are born, how they are
raised by their parents, and how they survive in the wild as adults.
Sidebars provide quick facts or interesting related information; in the
bat book, for example, sidebars explain that bats can swim as well as
catch a bug every 45 seconds, and that the oldest known bat fossil is 50
million years old. The consistent high quality of the prose and the
spectacular photography make this series an excellent choice for young
readers. Highly recommended.
