Review

This collection of essays by educators and teachers addresses the nature
of teaching excellence, and is designed to be an inspirational
collection of readings for the student teacher. The editor provided the
contributors with a series of guiding propositions around which to
compose their reflections. The propositions are essentially character
statements that confirm the importance of truth, morality, and humility.
The essays are essentially the authors’ anecdotal reflections of their
experiences as students or teachers.

Most of the 11 “mentors” do not currently teach, so there is an
eternally optimistic undercurrent to their “picture” of teaching.
This book aims at teaching teachers not how to teach but rather to
strive toward personal philosophical completeness. It is the written
equivalent of a “buck-up speech.”
