Andrew—Catch that Cat!

Young Andrew has a problem. He can’t find his beloved cat, Sarah. The
precocious feline is supposed to be an indoor cat, but Andrew’s father
is sure he saw Sarah’s white tail disappear out the back door. Andrew
and his best friend, Josh, begin a yard-by-yard search for Sarah
throughout their neighborhood. By the end of the day, they have found a
dog, a skunk, wet cement, a French vanilla cake, and about a hundred
alley cats, but no Sarah. Josh, in the meantime, has his own concerns.
He wants to buy his mother a birthday present, but cannot think of a
good money-making scheme. As the two boys search their community, all
they seem to find is trouble.

Aimed at emerging readers, this hilarious chapter book is great way to
ease young readers from picture books to longer works of fiction. The
plot begins with a simple theme—“Andrew, catch that cat”—but as
one comical muddle piles on top of the next, Andrew and Josh’s mission
becomes a tangle of absurd situations. Lots of high energy illustrations
by Kim LaFave add to the general silliness. Highly recommended.
