Review

This book is divided into shore, land, and after-dark activities, and
things to do on rainy days at the cottage or when hiking or camping. Its
100 plus activities range from making a snorkel, sewing a hammock, and
building a worm farm to flower pressing, rock art, whittling, and making
a snake survey.

Entertaining drawings by Heather Collins interpret suggested ideas.
Children will enjoy the creative recommendations for food and drinks,
imaginative scientific projects, new games, learning to identify animal
tracks, building intruder alarms, or getting weather reports from
crickets.

An idea source for families to take along on summer trips, The Kids
Cottage Book should also inspire children of primary-junior grade levels
to learn about nature or to create handicrafts. Its easy-to-follow
instructions make it a useful tool for camp leaders as well. The book
also encourages investigations of the natural world, and suggests
creative activities that children can do alone or with family or
friends. All in all, an excellent resource for both libraries and
private collections. Highly recommended.
