Review

The underlying thesis of this book is that gender problems in education
will begin to be redressed only when the basic tenets and practices of
educational administration have altered to accommodate feminist practice
and an adequate representation of feminist leaders. The book, which
features reasonably accessible contributions by 19 scholars, is divided
into three parts. Part 1 provides an overview of the problem and
includes a useful review of the literature. Part 2 examines experiences
in other provinces, ranging from efforts to encourage participation to
patterns of systemic exclusion, while Part 3 considers a number of
leadership issues. In a useful postscript, co-editor Beth Young lays out
an agenda for subsequent action.

Although intended primarily for students of educational leadership and
administration, women’s studies, and organizational theory, this book
should interest anyone concerned about Canada’s educational system.
