Review

Budget cutbacks coupled with a “back to the basics” trend have left
educational drama in an increasingly marginalized and precarious
position. In this era of “accountability,” drama educators seem to
spend more time justifying their place in the curriculum than they do
practising their craft. This excellent collection of papers by
researchers from 32 countries provides a systematic evaluation of the
Theatre in Education and Drama in Education fields. The contents are
eclectic, ranging from practical to the philosophical. A biography and
contact numbers are provided for each researcher. Of tremendous value to
workers and specialists in the field, this book makes a compelling case
that Drama and Theatre in Education have truly come of age. Policymakers
take note.
