Review

This easy-to-read informative book introduces young readers to
underwater life in the Bahamas by inserting into its dazzling
photographs of the ocean (taken by Chris Hartley, who has been diving
since the age of 1) images of people wearing diving helmets. Unfamiliar
ocean objects are combined with familiar, everyday things such as a
cucumber and even a kitten. And there are clever homonyms and puns such
as “sea enemy” / “sea anemone.”

The photographs and text are peppered with cartoons depicting Harry, a
clownish fish, which reinforce the book’s lighthearted, whimsical
tone. The picture glossary would have been much more useful had it
described in some detail sea creatures such as “the trumpetfish” or
“the clown wrasse.” But taken as a whole, this book will thoroughly
engage those with an interest in the ocean. Highly recommended.
