Review

Devil on My Back is a science-fiction adventure story about Tomi, a
young person who fights against the tyrannical computer system that
controls the City of Arc One. The Tomorrow City, also science fiction,
concerns a computer called “C-Three,” which is programmed to make
the town of Thompsonville an ideal place to live. Unfortunately, this
computer’s values include no respect for anything that is old and
therefore useless. We follow characters Caro and David as they try and
stop the diabolical C-Three.

Both these books, which were previously published in the early 1980s,
have entertaining plots, and both reflect a system of values that allows
the compassion and creativity of young people to triumph over the
mechanistic power of computers. Devil on My Back is recommended; The
Tomorrow City is highly recommended.
