Review

The apparently destructive behavior of bears in parks, this book
reveals, is an instinctive food-seeking response of animals whose
habitat has been despoiled by the influence of “modern
civilization.” Human users of parks, it warns, must adapt their own
behavior or else risk injury. The text and cartoon illustrations contain
suggestions about peaceful co-existence with bears, ranging from food
storage in campgrounds to what to do when you meet a bear in the woods
(don’t smile).

Although the cover suggests an easy-read picture book, the pages of
this book are quite dense with text. Young children would require adult
assistance to interpret the content.

A good research source for late primary and early junior readers.
Recommended.
