Review

This book about water is packed with facts, ideas, suggestions, and
activities that are relevant to a child’s world. Simple activities
such as pouring a glass of tap water to make the point that this water
may be the same water that came out of the tap a year ago brings home
the importance of caring for this recycled resource. Other suggested
activities, from mapping the source of water for a community to getting
politically involved in water-pollution issues, leave the reader with a
sense that individual actions can make a difference in understanding and
caring for earth’s water supply.

Topics covered include the source of water, the accessibility of the
water supplies, the hydrologic cycle, aquatic ecosystems, food chains
and webs, types of pollution and their impact on the water system, and
what can be done to conserve and care for water.

The illustrations, presented in shades of grey and blue, lend
themselves well to the topic. The prose, though choppy at times, for the
most part flows nicely. Highly recommended.
