Twelve-year-old Charles “Chaz” Fry runs away from home because of
the injustices he’s suffered at the hands of his adopted parents,
young brother, teachers, and peers. Camped by a stream on his first
night away, he is bitten by a firefly. Upon awakening, Chaz discovers
that he has turned into a human-sized firefly that when wet becomes
invisible. Dismayed at first, Chaz quickly becomes aware of the
advantages of his predicament. Here’s his chance to pay back all those
who have wronged him!

The Firefly Kid is difficult to categorize. It has elements of
realistic fiction mixed with fantasy and science fiction. Because of the
language (which some may find offensive) it appears intended for a
young-adult audience. However, the format and black-and-white cover
would make it unappealing to that age group. The story is very difficult
to follow. Sentence structure is awkward, grammatical errors occur
often, and spelling and/or typographical errors abound. Not recommended.
