Review

This large-format text introduces junior and intermediate students to
both prehistorical and modern elephants. Starting with the wooly
mammoth, Eric Grace explores the world of elephants, covering such
subjects as anatomy, the birth of an elephant, family life, eating
habits, the ivory trade, underground elephants, and Ahmed, the famous
Kenyan elephant. Detailed drawings and striking, full-color photos
appear throughout. Unfortunately, measurements are not given in metric
units.

Among the other titles in Key Porter’s Natural History series (edited
by the renowned Canadian naturalist, R.D. Lawrence) are Bears, Eagles,
Seals, and Wolves. With its clear text, excellent index, and
well-planned chapters, Elephants is a first-choice purchase for both
research and interest reading. Highly recommended.
