Intolerance: A General Survey

This well-organized book is divided into four major chapters. Chapters 1
and 2 provide an examination of “oppressor” discourse and some of
the many ways in which that discourse can be seen, heard, read, and
imposed in a cultural milieu. Chapter 3 explores the discovery and
assessment of the types of alienation that can be imposed by the
oppressor and taken on by the oppressed. Chapter 4, a resource guide,
provides an elaborate discourse into the hard and difficult road that
can lead to emancipation. While the book contains a thematic
bibliography, a more general bibliography would be a most welcome
addition in a future edition.

Readers whose backgrounds are not in the social sciences may find the
book somewhat heavy in its use of jargon and scientific vocabulary. All
in all, however, a valuable contribution to the general literature on
intolerance, alienation, and emancipation.
