Review

These latest two books in the Welcome to the World series are packed
with facts that can help us to understand the lives of whales and
wolves.

Whales are presented as a family of animals, from blue whale to
dolphin. We learn about their evolution, their breathing, the distances
they travel, and how they communicate. An entire chapter is devoted to
eating and rearing, and the closing chapter portrays whales as a playful
animal.

Wolves are presented as dogs with a difference. The author describes
where they live, what they eat, how they communicate, and how they raise
their young. Like the whale, the wolf is shown to be a playful animal,
both within the wolf pack and with other species.

Both books offer short chapters on key aspects of these animals
(family, diet, and communication) and on the place of fun in their
lives. Excellent photographs, a colorful design, and fact-filled
sidebars add to the appeal of these books. Highly recommended.
