Review

From burping cows to hungry dung beetles, the creatures described in
this book will entertain readers with their seemingly bizarre behavior.
Author/illustrator Roy Condy has produced a collection of wacky animal
facts for kids that adults will enjoy too. Readers will learn about a
first-born eaglet’s habit of bullying its siblings (sometimes to
death), woodpeckers’ built-in “crash helmets,” and “stealth”
elephants, among other things. The book is not intended as a reference
text, but rather aims to amuse with tidbits of information on animals,
birds, and insects.

The appealing design will encourage repeat visits. Each spread has
short blocks of copy accompanied by humorous black-and-white cartoon
drawings. Whether at home or in school, Shark Attacks and Spider Snacks
will serve as a fun introduction to the peculiarities of animal
behavior. Recommended.
