Review

“Nunavut is a territory in Canada. Nunavut is 1 of the 3 territories
in Canada. Nunavut is the largest territory in Canada. Nunavut has 1/5
of Canada’s land. The Northwest Territories is west of Nunavut.
Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec are south of Nunavut. Nunavut is made up of
a mainland and many islands in the Arctic Ocean. Nunavut has Baffin
Island and Ellesmere Island.”

The above is a sample of the clear, easy-to-read prose that is typical
in each book of this 13-volume series about the provinces and
territories of Canada. Each province/territory, including Nunavut, which
was created in 1999, has its own book. The format is laid out as if the
reader was flipping through a handful of postcards. Each 2-page chapter
features a bright, full-color photograph on the left-hand page and short
facts about the subject area on the right-hand page. The chapters
(“Population,” “History,” “Waterways,” “Parklands,”
“Resources,” “Farming,” “Industry,” “Wildlife,” and
“Vegetation”) are followed by a glossary, to help the reader
understand new words that may be peculiar to a particular province or
territory, and an index.

All About Canadian Provinces and Territories provides an excellent
introduction for emerging readers to this immense country and its many
diverse geographic regions. Highly recommended.
