Review

The Lawrence family has a problem. The house in which they live has no
closets. There is no place to put their clothes—clean or otherwise.
So, during an unusual excursion to downtown Toronto, they purchase 13
laundry baskets. These baskets not only serve as storage space but also
provide the three Lawrence children with a vehicle for time-traveling
adventure.

This delightful youth novel sparks the imagination, as it relates the
children’s fantasy escapades to visit relatives from previous
generations. Unforeseen consequences of their actions, however, create
uncomfortable conditions for the current family members, and compromises
need to be made. With a combination of narrative and poetry, the story
moves at a good pace, and the description of events effectively holds
the reader in suspense. The choice of words and the flow of the language
also contribute to the success of this book. Recommended.
