Review

This book about women in the Bible is designed to stimulate discussion
between an adult reader and a child. The format is straightforward. The
biblical verses pertaining to each woman’s story are given, followed
by a short commentary by the author and suggestions for further reading
(this material is intended for the adult). An imaginative children’s
story highlights the message and sets the stage for an interesting
discussion between adult and child.

“A Pair of Sealskin Boots” is based on Moses’ refusal to be known
as the son of a Pharaoh’s daughter. He insists that he is one of
God’s people. The author finds a parallel tale of “adoption, lost
identity and leadership” in the story of an Inuit woman. It is this
combination of careful research and unusual interpretation that makes
Miriam, Mary and Me so engrossing.

Young girls will be surprised and inspired as they learn about the
lives and accomplishments of these women. Highly recommended.
