Review

Gynecological Health, an updated and expanded version of the
Gynecological Sourcebook, covers a broad range of women’s health
issues with the bare minimum of medical jargon. The author provides
information on the basic components of the female reproductive system
and addresses both common and more serious problems and issues, from pap
smears and urinary tract infections to sexually transmitted diseases and
ovarian cancer. What makes the book truly unique is that, in addition to
conventional medicine, it includes treatment options based on
alternative medicine, nutrition, and herbal medicine.

Readers are encouraged to take ownership of their own health and
relationships with their doctors. The appendixes include a glossary of
terms, stretches and exercises that women can do every day, information
on diet, and resources. A doctor’s responsibilities toward the patient
are clearly explained.

Gynecological Health is not meant to be an encyclopedia of women’s
health issues. Its subject matter is confined to issues affecting 99
percent of the population, which excludes very rare diseases or issues.
Comprehensive and accessible, the book would be of practical value to
every Canadian woman.
