Review

Language Arts Idea Bank provides teachers with strategies and learning
approaches that will improve student performance. Divided into four
sections—“Reading,” “Writing,” “Speaking and Listening,”
“Viewing and Representing“—the book features classroom-tested
activities that are designed to help students develop their language
arts skills. Key themes include responding to reading, exploring
vocabulary, finding a writing voice, benefiting from oral
interpretation, and viewing media with a critical eye. The lessons are
supplemented by sidebars, reproducible surveys, worksheets, graphic
organizers, exemplars, and reflection tools. The book, which is based on
the premise that ineffective teaching strategies rather than a lack of
ability are the real barriers to student learning, will be of particular
value to interns and beginning teachers.
