Review

The first resolution passed by Vancouver’s first city council in 1886
was to ask the federal government to set aside a thousand acres of
forested waterfront land to the west of the developing city for a public
park. That parcel of greenspace became the city’s world-renowned
Stanley Park, beloved by residents and visited by eight million people a
year. This beautifully illustrated and well-researched guide leads the
reader on a leisurely exploration of all that the Park has to offer,
describing and recounting the history of more than 50 of its
attractions. Many of the photographs are historical, dating from as
early as 1888 and inviting comparison with the current views. It will
take many pleasant hours in the Park with this companion to explore all
the sites it identifies.
