Review

This recent offering from the Self-Counsel Business series provides an
organized approach to starting and carrying on a successful small
business supplying such office services as secretarial support and word
processing from the home. Starting with “Are You an Entrepreneur?”
the book continues with sections on researching the market, setting up a
home office, financial and legal issues, marketing and customer service,
and maintaining cash flow. The text is simple and straightforward with
useful examples to illustrate the commonsense decisionmaking that is
required. The layout is clear and concise. There are a number of sample
formats and worksheets. There is no suggestion that this book is all you
will need. The author is quick to point out the need to research
up-to-date tax and legal information and to get professional advice
where necessary. Readers wanting help in such specific areas as planning
and registering a new business can find this information in other books
on the market. Those looking for an outline of the key issues as well as
a guide on how to proceed will find this one is a good candidate.
