Review

Josey Vogels has been writing about sex for more than 10 years.
Informative, entertaining, and nonjudgmental, Bedside Manners focuses on
topics ranging from foreplay to homosexuality to extramarital affairs.
Vogels offers an etiquette of sexuality and ethics, but in lieu of
prudish or conservative schemas she relies on an ethical framework of
sexual interactions that emphasizes choice and individuality. For
instance, in her discussion of pornography, she emphasizes personal
taste and comfort level between couples as opposed to attempting to
convince women that if they don’t like to watch pornography they’re
not hip. In a chapter titled “Reality Check,” Vogels points out the
pitfalls of unsafe sex, touching on both STDs and pregnancy; she makes
it clear that although sex is fun, failure to inform your partner about
STDs or to take precautions is not funny at all.

Bedside Manners is an excellent resource.
