Review

In this stunning coffee-table book, David M. Baird shares a lifetime of
photography and geological study of locations across the globe, from the
awe-inspiring rock formations of the Canadian Rockies to the minuscule
pattern of tide-washed sand on a Hawaiian beach.

Baird’s photography celebrates the incredible diversity of our
planet. At the same time, it forces us to slow down and appreciate the
hidden beauty that escapes our notice because we are so thoroughly
submersed in our daily routines. Cracks of mud in a drying puddle and
the dimpled surface of melting snow are captured with the same attention
as Alberta’s Athabasca Glacier and Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway.

Baird not only inspires but also educates his readers. Each
black-and-white photograph is accompanied by a brief description of the
location, the rock formation, and the natural events that led to its
creation.

Beauty in the Rocks is recommended for any lover of nature, geology, or
photography.
