Review

“How would you like to live on a boat and travel around the world?”
When her husband put that question to her, Cantrell wondered how other
women might have coped with the kind of major lifestyle change he was
suggesting. So she began a five-year study that eventually involved 107
participants who had adjusted, more or less, to the cruising lifestyle.
Their dreams, fears, and experiences are the subject of this book,
organized as a guide for others contemplating a similar change. It
presents checklists of issues to consider before making the decision,
explores options for easing into life aboard and maintaining a base on
land, and offers practical advice on day-to-day aspects of the cruising
lifestyle such as diet, exercise, and pets. Most of the participants
found the change a positive experience once they had overcome their
fears of loss and failure, and many reported that dealing with it gave
them a greater understanding of themselves and their partners. In
general terms, the guidelines in this book can be followed when
contemplating any major lifestyle change.
