Review

Jason Sherman, recipient of the 1992 Chalmers Award, explores the richly
dramatic themes of loyalty and betrayal in a play that is at once
chilling and passionate. The play, which was inspired by a real-life
death, also examines the tensions that exist between the individual and
the state. Three in the Back, Two in the Head is uncompromising in its
politically incorrect view that only the strongest have the wherewithal
to survive. Although it offers scant consolation or compassion, the play
packs a formidable emotional punch.
