Review
Canada Year Book 2006 is an invaluable source of statistical information
and analytical articles concerning Canada’s social, political, and
economic landscape. Although turning to the Internet for information of
all kinds has become a veritable knee-jerk reaction, this book
demonstrates that good things continue to come in printed packages.
The book’s 25 chapters cover topics ranging from agriculture to
travel and tourism. Each chapter includes an overview of the topic
(e.g., energy in Canada) and a number of related articles (e.g.,
Alberta’s oil sands). Tables, graphs, and charts representing the
statistical data are interspersed throughout the analytical articles.
Located at the end of the book are a glossary to explain unfamiliar
vocabulary and a fine index to facilitate access by specific terms.
This user-friendly book provides students with reliable and
contextualized statistical information that is often difficult to access
on the Internet. Canada Year Book 2006 is recommended for public,
secondary, and academic reference collections, and for the personal
libraries of interested general readers.
