Review

The change from being an able person to being a disabled one is
traumatic in many ways. After recovery and rehabilitation comes the job
of getting on with life, of living with altered physical abilities and
changed self-image. After Disability is designed to provide assistance
to people in that stage of their recovery.

The book covers most of the basic topics that present day-to-day
challenges for disabled people: how to obtain and use assistive devices,
how to go about looking for a job, how to build or modify a house for
specific needs, how to resume a healthy social and sexual life, and so
on. While the book contains anecdotes describing the experiences of
people who have gone through the process, it is essentially a guidebook
aimed primarily at people with recently acquired disabilities. A list of
resources for those seeking further information is included in the book.
