Review

For average Canadians going about their everyday busy lives, Company’s
Coming publishes the ultimate in practical, let’s-just-do-it recipe
books. The focus is on everyday dishes that are a bit different or
special, yet use only readily available ingredients and require only
basic food preparation skills.

These are not books for passionate foodies or would-be gourmet chefs
who enjoy adventures with the exotic and esoteric. But if you see no
cause to shudder at a casserole recipe that calls for a can of mushroom
soup or salads with packaged jelly powder as their base … well,
welcome home.

The Most Loved Recipe Collection series is an upscale take on the
popular Company’s Coming comb-back format, featuring hard covers,
larger page size, ribbon bookmarks, and colour photography throughout.
Although deluxe in appearance, they are still practical for everyday use
in the kitchen, as the covers can stand up to damp wiping and the
binding provides nearly lay-flat functionality.

The collections are substantial, with more than 75 recipes in each
book. Most Loved Casseroles features beef, pork, poultry, fish, and
meatless dishes. The Cookies collection includes drop, refrigerated,
rolled, cut-out, shaped, pressed, non-bake, and special occasion
recipes. Salads and Dressings offers a variety of choices, including
tossed, moulded, layered, and marinated salads as well as 26 dressings
and toppings. In each work, the selection ranges from the traditional
(Chocolate Chip Cookies, Shepherd’s Pie, Caesar Salad) to more
imaginative interpretations and unusual combinations. Each recipe
provides both metric and imperial measures and a full nutritional
analysis. Tips, interesting facts, and presentation suggestions appear
in sidebars. Most of the recipes are illustrated with a large,
spectacularly luscious colour photo.
