Review

Vancouver and its surrounding municipalities are a cyclist’s paradise,
with spectacular scenery year round and a range of terrain from rugged
mountain trails to gentle seaside paths. The 32 cycling routes selected
for this guide show off some of the best the region has to offer. With
lengths from 4.4 to 38.4 km, many are well within the capabilities of
distance runners and walkers as well as cyclists. Each route includes a
map of the area, and a “road log” to give detailed directions and
identify points of interest along the way. Descriptive notes, with
black-and-white photographs, provide background information to enhance
the scenic and recreational aspects of the tour. These may include
natural features, historical buildings and monuments, berry-picking and
picnic opportunities, and even a selection of Vancouver’s outstanding
bakeries. A “route finder” table helps with planning by presenting
concise information about all the routes in one place: length, elevation
gain, degree of physical challenge, traffic levels, and touring
highlights. An enjoyable guide for active people of all ages.
