Review

Charlie Farquharson is a popular author, historian, astronomer,
geographer, political commentator, and biblical scholar. He spends much
of his time touring the nation in search of its pulse. He once
discovered Canada’s identity but he put it down somewhere and can’t
remember where. Farquharson resides in Parry Sound with his wife,
Valeda, to whom he recounted this history on days when it was too wet to
plow. Farquharson is a.k.a. Don Harron but would prefer not to admit it.

Like its predecessor, this revised and expanded edition begins in the
mists of time, when the land was in the capable hands of its first
citizens (“Yer West Coasters, the Hyeeda, the Squeamish and yer
Marrytimer McMacs”), and proceeds through to the present with
razor-sharp examinations of such contemporary figures as Briney
Bullrooney, Robber Booboorasser, Reamy Leveck, and Jeens Cretin.

Charlie Farquharson Esq. is so essentially a part of the Canadian
mosaic that not to have this book in one’s possession could be viewed
as a form of national betrayal.
