Review
Not only is this cookbook wonderfully easy to read, with standard as
well as metric measurements (although the recipes have not been tested
in metric), the proceeds from its sales will be used to fund the Royal
Purple of Canada, a national charitable organization.
The book has many helpful hints, such as use less salt in recipes with
bacon and pour cold batter into piping hot muffin tins for Yorkshire
Pudding. Curiously, each recipe that calls for spinach uses frozen
instead of fresh, though the latter is available at supermarkets year
round: I would be tempted to substitute fresh always.
The “Cooking for a Crowd” section presents a nice mix of recipes
serving 12 to 100. Amounts needed to serve a 50-person banquet are
calculated for turkey, beef, ham, cold cuts, potatoes, coffee, jellied
salads, and sandwiches, among others.
In addition to a clear index, the book comes with mouthwatering
pictures.
