Review

Vancouver’s mild climate and attractive gardens and green spaces make
walking a popular activity for all seasons. Strolling through the
neighborhoods is also an excellent way to get to know the city, and to
develop an appreciation of its various architectural styles. This guide
supplies the historical context for eight neighborhood walking tours and
points out distinctive architectural features of individual homes,
shops, and public buildings along the way. A glossary of terminology is
provided to help the neophyte identify the main styles and distinctive
structural elements. The guide is liberally illustrated with
black-and-white photographs, and includes an index to notable buildings,
builders, and owners. Tours range from 30 minutes to 2 hours in length.
Both authors are well-known in Vancouver for their work in promoting
heritage preservation.
