Review
This privately published collection contains no information about its
author except that he lives in Sundridge, Ontario. In reading this large
collection of short and long poems, dialogues, and short stories, I was
struck by both the intensity and the honesty of the writing. But at the
same time, I am convinced that this would be an entirely different and
more successful collection if it had been given to an experienced editor
before publication. It is hard to detect the nature of the individual
voice speaking through this work.
The book is divided into four sections: “i spill my passion”; “i
chirp”; “counterpoint”; and “for my brother.” These titles,
however, give us very little help with respect to the sections’
individual contents. They almost seem arbitrarily chosen, and the
juxtaposition of different forms and styles makes consistency of
response almost impossible.
Wind may well be an important new voice on the Canadian literary scene,
but this collection, by its very nature, makes an assessment of his
talent extremely difficult.
