Review

In 1987, The Institute of Intergovernmental Relations published Vol. 1
of this bibliography, current to 1986. The present volume, intended for
use in tandem with its predecessor, pulls together 140 new references
covering the highly emotional period of Meech Lake and Oka/Akwesasne.

The academic literature on the subject of aboriginal self-government is
widely scattered. These two volumes of bibliographic references form a
central directory for researchers by gathering materials with a Canadian
focus that are readily accessible. Materials from standard academic
journals are included, as are documents in certain identified mainstream
libraries. Articles from newspapers and popular journals are excluded
because of their extreme volume; also excluded are documents in
inaccessible locations. Libraries whose collections are identified
include the Department of Indian Affairs, the Treaties and Historical
Research Centre, the National Library of Canada, the Native Council of
Canada, and the Assembly of First Nations.

References are grouped into five broad categories, with subdivisions.
In addition, both title and author indexes form part of the appendix.
Each citation includes source information to allow researchers to
connect easily with the publication or document described.
