Review

The Apocalypse, also called “The Revelation to John,” is
excruciating in its complexity. For all but the most advanced Scripture
scholars and theologians, its language and symbolism endow it with a
sense of terror and pessimism bordering on despair. And in answer to
this traditional foreboding, Prévost presents us with Fear Not!

Prévost, a professor of Scripture at St. Paul’s University, Ottawa,
has taken the traditional understanding of the book of the Apocalypse as
espoused by experts of the highest academic calibre and expressed it in
language the laity can readily comprehend. His interpretation of the
Apocalypse is one of hope, based on sound theological doctrine and
optimism. For Prévost (voicing the opinion of every responsible Bible
scholar), the message of the book focuses on the overwhelming might and
glory of the God of salvation, as opposed to the popular (and erroneous)
sensationalism of writers who seek to intimidate the theologically naive
with wild theories on the “end of the world.”

Fear Not! will surely earn the praise of pastor and theologian alike.
It is to be highly recommended as a solid, accurate introduction to
apocalyptic literature for both seminarians and well-informed
churchgoers.
