Review
As an accounting professor at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, the
author is aware that beginning users of business software can have
difficulty learning from the official manuals. The documentation is
often organized from the systems analyst’s point of view (by function)
rather than from the user’s (by work flow). To overcome this
difficulty for learners of ACCPAC, a popular microcomputer-based
accounting system, Deutsch has prepared this step-by-step keystroke
guide to the three most commonly used modules: General Ledger, Accounts
Payable, and Accounts Receivable. It covers the setting up of company
data, the conversion of manual records, the procedures of the normal
accounting cycle, and the production of financial statements and
cheques. Some fairly complex functions, such as adding departmental
accounts and customizing reports and forms, are covered as
easy-to-follow keystroke sequences when the need for them appears. By
following these rote instructions, the learner develops facility with
the software in the context of familiar accounting procedures.
This is not a reference manual. The user who wants a comprehensive view
of the system’s structure and capabilities must rely on the system
manual. Also, this guide is specific to Version 5.0 of ACCPAC Plus;
Version 6.0 (the “gst upgrade”) has now been released.
