Review

Children approximately six to ten will be captivated by this direct,
factual account of the loon. The colorful full-page illustrations lead
children into the world of the mysterious northern diver, making it easy
for active imaginations to follow along as the loon raises its chicks,
dives for food, struggles to get airborne, and so on. The text is
suitable either for read-aloud sessions or for the older child to read
alone.

Factual details presented with empathy, evocative paintings, a
carefully controlled style, and a reinforced binding give this book the
potential to become a family classic.
